Area Police
Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the event," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism made him without words and required to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
